TRACEABILITY OF HUMIDITY AND AIR TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENTS

As part of the European Metrology Programme for Innovation and Research (EMPIR) Humea Projet, INRIM hosted a workshop on “Traceability on humidity and air temperature measurement”. Around 40 people attended, coming from calibration and test accredited laboratory, industry, research centers and from the meteorological community as well.

Topics that were covered:

basic definitions in humidity,
traceability in hygrometry and air temperature,
measurement Instruments,
humidity generation methods,
calibration procedures,
practical exercises and uncertainties associated with humidity and air temperature measurements.

At the end of the workshop the participants had a tour at the INRIM humidity and temperature primary laboratories.

Because of many expressions of interest arrived from the stakeholders unable to participate at the workshop organized in March, the lectures will be repeated in the next autumn.

The control and measurement of humidity is important for many industrial applications and to ensure the appropriate storage of materials and products. The overall objective of this EURAMET/EMPIR project is to develop or extend the measurement and research capabilities of the participating emerging NMI/DIs’ countries in the field of humidity measurements.

The extent of improvements will be based on stakeholder needs, with the effort optimized thus avoiding duplication of resources, where applicable. Individual NMI/DIs’ strategies for humidity metrology development will be prepared by participants and then discussed within the EURAMET community, ensuring coordinated and optimized approach.
